Surgical Training Course in Ghana

Inhoud

Alfred Surgery partnered with the Norwegian International Hernia Team and Holy Family Hospital Berekum in Ghana for a surgical training course focused on hands-on learning, structured training and quality improvement. Over the course of the programme, local surgeons combined clinical practice with digital training and structured follow-up.

Combining hands-on training with structured learning

During the course, 43 patients underwent surgery, with six local surgeons participating in the structured training programme. Two local surgeons scrubbed in during every procedure, allowing them to gain hands-on experience alongside the visiting surgical team.

After the procedures, 30 structured and documented training conversations were held to reflect on the cases and support continued learning. All patients were digitally registered in Alfred Surgery’s quality registry, creating a structured record of the procedures and outcomes.

Building local surgical capacity

The combination of clinical collaboration and structured digital training provides a framework for supporting local surgeons beyond the operating room. By connecting hands-on experience with documented learning and quality data, training can become more structured and continuous.

For Alfred Surgery, the programme in Ghana demonstrates how digital tools can complement clinical training and contribute to strengthening surgical practice and local capacity.

The programme resulted in 43 procedures with no complications reported.
