New Publication in BMJ Open Quality
Inhoud
Alfred Surgery’s work on structured and standardized surgical training has been published in BMJ Open Quality, highlighting how digital tools can support surgical education, competency development and quality improvement across different healthcare settings.
From training to measurable competence
The extended conference abstract, “Safer surgery through standardized training: a digital platform for surgical education and quality improvement. Experiences from Norway and West Africa,” is based on a presentation at the Healthcare Improvement Forum in Oslo in March 2026.
The publication explores how structured and standardized training can strengthen surgical education and quality improvement. It describes experiences from hospitals in Norway and surgical training programmes in Ghana and Sierra Leone, where the Alfred Surgery framework is used to support structured training, supervision and competency assessment.
Supporting safer surgical practice
The experiences described in the publication demonstrate how a digital approach can help make surgical training more structured, measurable and scalable across different healthcare settings.
For Alfred Surgery, the publication contributes to the growing conversation around how technology can support healthcare professionals in developing and maintaining the competencies needed for safe surgical practice.
The work was carried out by Irina Balieva and Robbert-Jan Lindeman, together with Alfred Surgery’s collaborators.
