David Lourié

Chief of Education

 

Dr. David Joseph Lourié MD FACS is a board-certified American surgeon who began performing laparoscopic surgery over 30 years ago and made his initial reputation in that field, designing and building some of the earliest endosuites in the United States. 

He has a special interest in robot-enhanced surgery and published his early, extensive personal experience with robotic gastric bypass surgery beginning over 19 years ago. Dr. Lourié was one of the first surgeons in the world to use totally robotic staplers in gastric, intestinal, colorectal, and liver surgery and is now internationally recognized for his expertise in robotic hernia surgery. 

Dr. Lourié has served as Chair of the Department of Surgery, Chair of the Quality Management Committee, and Director and Developer of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Huntington Hospital. An experienced and respected robotic laparoscopic surgeon, Dr. Lourié teaches and publishes in his areas of expertise and continues to be a leader in advanced surgical techniques and early recovery after surgery.  

He has a passion for international education in anatomy and surgery. He is an active member of the American Hernia Society, the International Hernia Collaboration, the Alfred Surgical Collaboration, and a frequent guest faculty for the European Hernia Society. Dr. David Lourié is located in Los Angeles, California.
